En todas partes cuecen..."malas prácticas de Mktg": UK


  • Astra Zeneca paid £2,500 for a doctor at the Royal Bournemouth trust and £1,500 for a doctor at Sheffield teaching hospital to attend a cancer conference in Texas.
  • Sanofi-Aventis, the world's fourth biggest pharmaceutical company, paid for doctors at the Countess of Chester trust to go to conferences in Cape Town, New Orleans and Barcelona.
  • Roche spent £2,000 for an oncology consultant at Addenbrooke's hospital in Cambridge to go to a conference in May last year.
  • GSK, the biggest British pharmaceutical company, paid £1,200 for a consultant at Sheffield teaching hospital to attend the 11th international congress of Parkinson's disease and movement disorders in Turkey last June.
  • Companies have also been taking hospital staff to top football and rugby matches.

En mayo 2008 escribieron a las doce mas importantes compañías farmacéuticas con un survey sobre las prácticas utilizadas. Solo nueve responden y ninguna de ellas es suficientemente clara sobre lo que se pregunta a pesar de que, en Europa, es algo que puede solicitarse de acuerdo a ley. Ahora el Royal College of Physicians edita esta monografía. En ella destacan que:
  • 'relentless pressure on doctors, exerted by pharmaceutical marketing masquerading as education, is common.'

  • some consultants would not be able to attend conferences for 'continuing medical education' and improving their skills without drug company support, the report recommends replacing individual sponsorship with an industry-funded pool for doctors to attend events.

  • report also highlights the industry practice of 'using educational initiatives as promotional tools.' Many undergraduate medical students and doctors in training in the UK are found to lack sufficient 'prescribing knowledge', and 'professional development programmes are too dependent on industry support.'

  • report sets out 42 recommendations on how to improve the relationships between the NHS, academia and industry with the aim of improving patient care and confidence.
