Ratón de biblioteca: The Pharmaceutical Sales Representative Handbook / Todd Bearden & Larry Martin (Authors)

"I think this book like internal handbook which prepared by HR department for new joining employees, Many thing are commons between pharmaceutical companies and others are not, each pharm.company has it's internal rules." (Amazon review)

The most updated, comprehensive, real world, field manual on modern day pharmacuetical sales available today.

This handbook was written by reps for reps. It was designed with you in mind, those that are out in the field everyday; selling and driving business for your company.

This is not a handbook for getting into the industry or how to interview for your next pharmaceutical sales job, it is a boots on the ground field manual for success in this field, updated to include what the environment is like today and what it will be like in 5 years.

As a retired military officer, I wish I had this book when I entered the industry eight years ago. Now you have the opportunity to hit the ground running with this field book, providing detailed information from being a standout in training to driving your sales beyond the competition in your first year in the field."

Todd Bearden I was hired into Pharmaceutical Sales after retiring from a twenty one year career with the US Army. As a soldier, I served the majority of my career in Special Operations and Rapid Deployment Force Units such as, the 75th Ranger Regiment and the 82nd Airborne Division. Serving in numerous leadership positions and extensive military schooling provided me a smooth transition from the US Army to Corporate America.
I started my career in Pharmaceutical Sales as a field rep with a large pharmaceutical company. During my career I have sold eight different medicines to a variety of therapeutic specialties in the industry. Additionally, I have been awarded the Presidents Cup for being the top rated sales representative three times, two of which were back to back awards and have received numerous district and region awards while maintaining my position as a top performer year over year. This is an amazing industry and I feel extremely fortunate to be part of it.
We want you to share the same success. We wrote this handbook for you. Use it to learn, grow and challenge yourself to go as far as you can in this incredible industry.

Larry Martin I have been in the industry for twenty eight years, all with the same company. When I started my career, there were only four hundred reps across the company. I have sold numerous medicines spanning several therapeutic classes across several specialties; Hospital, Oncology and Primary Care. Throughout my career, I have been trained on forty different drugs and have won national, regional and local awards. I have had the privilege of assisting in training reps over the course of my career and have been called upon to present information at district and regional meetings, to include a presentation before my state committee on Medicaid. The last twenty eight years have been an adventure! I consider myself very lucky to be a part of this wonderful industry, the industry that YOU are now or will soon be a part of.

Pharma's social status: LinkedIn and FB up, Twitter down, Instagram finally appears

.

Facebook is the go-to platform for pharma marketers. In a new study, 73% of pharma marketing teams say they plan to use the platform during the next two years, an 8-percentage-point increase since Cutting Edge Information's previous survey in 2013.

That's not surprising, considering Facebook’s mainstream ubiquity and large reach, along with stepped-up efforts by Facebook to reach out to the pharma industry. What might be surprising, however, is how much other social platforms have gained—or lost—in the world of drug marketing. Twitter took a big fall below the 50% mark, while LinkedIn soared upward in its place. Pinterest? Gone. Instagram? Finally popped up.

LinkedIn made the biggest gain in projected use since the last survey. The business-friendly social networking site grew by 29 percentage points. Just 26% of pharma marketers planned to use it in 2013; this year, that grew to 55%.

Not nearly as important anymore was 140-character Twitter, where projected usage among pharma marketers dropped 19 percentage points. Only 45% plan to use it now, down from 64% in 2013.

Among the smaller social media platforms, Tumblr was on the to-do list for 9% of pharma marketers, while Instagram showed up for the first time in the survey, with 18% saying they’ll use it in the coming two years, said Natalie DeMasi, research team leader at Cutting Edge Information. Gone this year was Pinterest—which got zero reports of planned use, same as Vine, Flickr and Reddit.

 (...)

Challenges still remain in digital marketing as pharma gets up to speed on technology but continues to deal with some audiences—some old-school doctors, for instance—who don’t want tech solutions.

“Today pharma marketers have to do a lot of research ahead of time to figure out what will speak most to their target audiences. Sometimes, the best thing to do might not be using the new technology. But other times you have to go all the way. Do the research to find out,” DeMasi said.

"Is it Low T?" / Se cayó la testosterona...a multas.

.

AbbVie took a damaging hit Monday as the first verdict from a series of bellwether AndroGel cases went against the drugmaker to the tune of $150 million.

Jurors decided after hearing weeks of testimony that AbbVie isn’t responsible for plaintiff Jesse Mitchell’s 2012 heart attack, nor was it negligent. But the drugmaker did fraudulently misrepresent its product, the jury concluded. And that was worth $150 million in punitive damages for Mitchell and his legal team.

That "fraudulent misrepresentation" decision echoes critics who've put AbbVie and other testosterone drugmakers under fire for aggressively marketing their meds. Mitchell’s case was one of about 6,000 grouped in federal court in Chicago, all alleging that the companies pushed testosterone drugs off-label and put patients at unnecessary risk.

AndroGel itself broke the blockbuster barrier, fueled in part by campaigns that urged men to have their testosterone levels checked.

Following the verdict, Mitchell’s attorney Troy Rafferty said in a statement the decision “sends a very strong message to AbbVie, that its conduct in improperly marketing this drug to millions of off-label patients was wrong and warranted severe punishment.”

Mr. Mitchell was given his day in court and AbbVie was made to answer for its conduct that ultimately, nearly killed him,” Rafferty continued.

AbbVie sees things differently. A spokesperson told FiercePharma the jury “found that Androgel did not cause any damage. We expect the punitive damage award will not stand.”

Speaking with Bloomberg, Duke University law professor Neil Vidmar said the award will likely not survive an appeal because of a U.S. Supreme Court ruling that requires punitive damages to be based on reasonable actual damages.

Mitchell used AndroGel from 2008 to 2012 after seeing TV ads for the testosterone drug, according to his 2014 lawsuit. He suffered a heart attack in 2012, the suit says. If he had been warned of the med’s risks, he wouldn’t have opted to use the drug, according to the document.

The suit alleged AndroGelcauses serious medical problems, including life-threatening cardiac events, strokes, and thrombolytic events.” Mitchell’s case was selected as an early "bellwether" trial to highlight each side’s legal strengths and weaknesses.

Going forward, the jury’s decision could affect settlement negotiations. A series of testosterone drug bellwether trials are set to start in the coming months, according to the Illinois federal court’s website.

Previously, the first testosterone bellwether case, filed by plaintiff Jeffrey Konrad, ended in a mistrial after a week because of a lead plaintiff's attorney's health problems, according to the National Law Journal. That trial is now set to start in September.

AbbVie launched its first testosterone awareness campaign in 2008 to change men's attitudes toward testing and treatment.

NOVARTIS: Ensayos clínicos por smartphone..."elevateMS"

.

EAST HANOVER, N.J., Aug. 21, 2017 /PRNewswire/

Novartis announced today the launch of a mobile research study for people with multiple sclerosis (MS) that collects data via their smartphone, without the need for clinic visits.
The study, Evaluation of Evidence from Smart Phone Sensors and Patient-Reported Outcomes in Participants with Multiple Sclerosis (elevateMS), is designed to collect sensor-based data from physical tasks and symptoms. It aims to improve understanding of the daily challenges patients with MS can have and to uncover new potential measurements of treatment effectiveness through real-time data collection from participants in their everyday life.

The elevateMS study, which was developed in partnership with Sage Bionetworks, uses a mobile application that was built on the Apple ResearchKit®* platform. This emerging digital smartphone research platform allows study participants to contribute to research from home or on the go. At the same time, it enables researchers to collect data in the participant's everyday environment. To download the app and enroll in the study, please visit:

The elevateMS study is open to US participants with and without MS who can download the application from the Apple App Store and provide their mandatory informed consent. Participants have a right to leave the study anytime they like.

Using smartphones, the elevateMS application will capture participant responses to questionnaires, passive and active sensor-based movement data, and functional performance tasks completed by the participants. Participants will be able to use the application to view how their data changes over time. Researchers will use data from all participants to understand what it is like to live with MS.
The names of participants will be replaced with a random code, so the researchers and study sponsor Novartis won't know the individual's identity. (Más)
