Pharmaceutical companies have significantly decreased their expenditure on sampling. In 2006, $8.8 billion was spent on samples, while in 2010, only $5.6 billion was spent, a 36% decrease. All of the top spenders in sampling have decreased their spending, with Johnson and Johnson spending 72% less on samples in 2010 than 2006, and both GSK and Pfizer spending 58% less.
Of the top spenders, the only pharmaceutical company that has increased promotion spending on samples is Lilly, with a 21% increase since 2010. Some of the products contributing to this increased Lilly’s Diabetes products such and Humalog and Byetta, as well as Symbyax, Cialis and Cymbalta. (Ver)
