Top 10 Global CROs 2018 IGEAhub

.

Ranking and complete review of the 10 Best Global Contract Research Organizations (CROs) in 2018

In 2017, the global CRO services market is estimated to be valued at USD 36.27 Billion and projected to grow at a CAGR of 7.6% from USD 39.13 Billion in 2018 to reach USD 56.34 Billion by 2023.

Globally more than 1,100 CRO companies are active in 2017.
The global CRO market is centralized with the top 10 companies that generated collective total revenue of USD 34.514 billion in 2017 (including reimbursed out-of-pocket revenue).
The global contract research market is growing at a strong rate as increased dependence of pharmaceutical, biopharmaceutical and medical device companies seen due to increased outsourcing of R&D activities, increased R&D expenditures and, increasing number of clinical trials.

The leaders in this market include a mix of public-listed and privately held organizations.
Recent collaborations by CRO companies with government agencies and non-profit health organizations has proved that CROs are not just clinical service providers but actively involved in the new drug development process, and immensely contributing to the development of new products and helping advancement in healthcare outcomes.

A ranking system was developed for the top-10 global clinical research organizations.
A score statistic was developed to determine the rank of each organization.

  • Revenues (70%),
  • annual Revenue growth 2016 to 2017 (10%),
  • net income (5%),
  • expenses ratios (5%),
  • revenue per Employee (5%), and
  • scope of service portfolio (5%)

were the key input criteria used to calculate the score statistic for and every organization was assigned a score for each of these key input criteria.
Different weights were assigned to each rank.
A weighted sum of the scores was used to arrive at the final score statistic for each organization.
The final score statistic represents the financial health, competitive advantage, and activity status of each organization in the clinical trials domain.

CRO´s

  • Sponsor can convert the fixed costs of maintaining the personnel, expertise and facilities like data management necessary for clinical trial management into variable costs
  • Non-availability of services in-house
  • Knowledge of regulatory affairs in a particular country of interest
  • Increased complexity of clinical trials
  • Necessity for medical and clinical knowledge in specific therapeutic areas or indications
  • Increased amount of data required from clinical trials
  • Multinational and multi-center nature of current clinical trials
  • Large requirement of patient populations
  • Regionalized diseases

A leerla...

ST. LOUIS • Patient No. 28665 was helping a Chesterfield company test a drug dubbed the "female Viagra" but stopped showing up for exams in December 2007.

That didn't stop a staffer of the company, PPS Clinical Research STL, from claiming that six months later the patient came in for an exam, was diagnosed with medical conditions, had undergone tests and even had given a urine sample.

That admission was made in the company's guilty plea to a federal felony charge of obstructing a proceeding of a federal agency. The drug the company helped test, aimed at women who suffered from an unexplained lack of sexual desire, never made it to market.

As part of the plea, PPS admitted that it "corruptly influenced, obstructed, and impeded" an inspection by the Food and Drug Administration by providing false patient records in May 2010.

.../...

PPS recruited area women for two trials testing the drug, Flibanserin, which was aimed at women who suffered from what is known as hypoactive sexual desire disorder.

The drug and German drug manufacturer Boehringer Ingelheim were not named in the criminal court documents but were named in the parallel civil settlement.

Crowe said that Boehringer terminated PPS from the study after the problems surfaced.

Although the company said that the drug increased sexual desire in premenopausal women, the FDA's reproductive health advisory committee voted 10-1 in June 2010 that the drug was not significantly more effective than a placebo.

Less than four months later, Boehringer announced that it was discontinuing the development of the drug.

Boehringer did not respond to emails seeking comment.

Biotrial: Ensayo mortal / Bial

Firms ‘at fault’ in fatal clinical trial
France orders Biotrial to submit action plan or face licence suspension

An inquiry has found fault with both companies involved in a clinical trial in France that left one patient dead and five others hospitalised.

M.Touraine& Prof. G.Edan
Health Minister Marisol Touraine said yesterday that Portuguese pharma company Bial and French contract research organization (CRO) Biotrial were found to be at fault in an investigation conducted by France’s Inspectorate General for Social Affairs (IGAS).

Touraine also unveiled a plan to tighten up regulations governing the conduct of clinical trials, while Biotrial has been ordered to come up with an action plan to make sure the tragedy can never happen again. Failure to do so will result in Biotrial having its licence to operate suspended, said the Minister.

The IGAS launched the probe in January in the wake of the death of Guillaume Molinet, which occurred in a first-in-man trial at Biotrial’s phase I trial facility in Rennes.

The trial involved 90 healthy volunteers who were given Bial’s BIA 10-2474 - a candidate drug for mood and motor disorders associated with neurodegenerative disorders and anxiety.

The agency had no issues with France orders Biotrial to submit action plan or face licence suspension the protocol used in the trial as approved by France’s medicines regulator the ANSM, but said the implementation of the trial had a number of shortcomings.

In particular, the IGAS found that Biotrial continued to administer the drug to patients even after the first patient was taken to hospital, while the CRO – and Bial - also delayed reporting the adverse reactions to the ANSM.

The first hospitalisation took place on 10 January but dosing was not halted until the following day and the adverse events were not reported until 14 January.

Touraine said the government plans to tighten up the conditions for securing approval for first-inman studies, as well as reporting requirements, and will ask the ANSM to inspect all clinical trial facilities in France and remind them of their compliance obligations.

Meanwhile, the matter has been elevated to the EU level, with two working groups set up at the Commission to see how guidelines on the protection of healthy volunteers in clinical trials can be strengthened.(Ver)

"the leading source for trustworthy and timely clinical trials information, listings, and notifications."

"
forma oculta de Disease mongering" ?
